Productive nations have faster speeds on main roads without compromised safety, demonstrated by fewer accidents and fatalities than Queensland. We plan to increase speed limits equivalent to speed limits common to many nations. We will support these increases with safety controls that include road design, engineering and rules.
Speed Increase on Speed Variable Main Roads
We will increase the speed limit to 130km/h on speed variable, three-lane roads during off-peak periods. Heavy and recreational vehicles will remain restricted to current limits. By enabling traffic to move faster and incentivising some road users to travel during off-peak times, we can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of road transport.
